Python/Django developer with a passion for localization

Translate is looking for a Python developer with experience in Django. An interest in localization will be an advantage, a demonstrated passion for localization will be a real plus.

This is a full-time contract position. We operate a distributed development team, so you will be working from your home office. We accept applications from anywhere in the world but prefer to work with candidates on a European timezone.

You will be working primarily on our Pootle product, with work on other technologies as needed. Our major focus at the moment is implementing new features for clients and finding and fixing defects in deployed servers. You will at times need to deploy the software on Linux based servers.

Skills & Requirements

You are a capable programmer with good familiarity with Python and Django and with experience in Javascript, jquery and HTML. Our tools work primarily on Linux and we manage some of our server on Linux so you will have some Linux server experience.

We deploy our software on MySQL and PostgreSQL so experience on these would be to your advantage.

Your localization experience would be a real asset as this means that you understand what is needed by localizers as we build industry leading localization tools.

You've worked as part of small teams before. You know how to work well in a remote environment making the best use of available tools.

You work well in a team and bring new ideas and adjustments to the team so that
it can function optimally.

About Translate House

* Pootle - an online translation platform used by Mozilla, LibreOffice, Apache, Evernote, OLPC and others
* Virtaal - a desktop CAT tool
* Amagama - a Translation Memory server, and
* The Translate Toolkit - a localization engineering toolkit

We use GitHub to manage our code. And rely on py.test, RTD, Travis and Sentry for some of our development infrastructure. We develop using Agile and Scrum methodologies applying them where they best fit in a distributed team.
