CARE International is a leading development and humanitarian charity supporting the poorest communities in 84 countries around the world.  Our aim is to bring sustainable and innovative solutions to complex poverty issues and last year we supported 1015 poverty-fighting projects that reached more than 122 million people.  Our mission is to create lasting change in poor communities and we put money where it is needed most.

CARE International UK (CIUK) is recruiting a Programme Manager to oversee a portfolio of four grants under the DFID-funded Girls Education Challenge (GEC) Step Change funding scheme, managed by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.  The GEC focuses on ensuring expansion of education opportunities for marginalised girls at primary and secondary level.

This is an exciting opportunity to support CARE International’s firm commitment to gender equality and empowering poor women and girls by contributing to the education of marginalised girls in four countries.  The four projects in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Somalia and Zimbabwe aim to facilitate improved learning outcomes and access to sustainable education for over 180,000 marginalised girls.  The Programme Manager will lead this ambitious portfolio to ensure the successful delivery of results in four countries by steering effective project management, ensuring good planning, reporting, review and learning and compliance with CARE standards and donor guidelines.

The ideal candidate will have excellent project management skills, a strong track record of successfully managing development or humanitarian projects in developing countries, and experience of working conflict-affected contexts and education programming.  High level influencing, negotiating, facilitation, communication and troubleshooting skills are critical competencies for the role.
