 The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) is an Constitutional Commission established pursuant to Article 59 (4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 201 0 and established by the National Gender and Equality Commission Act, 2011.

The Key functions of the Commission include promoting gender and equality and freedom from discrimination principles in accordance with Article 27 of the Constitution and promoting integration of the principles of equality and freedom from discrimination in National and County policies, laws and  administrative regulations.

In order to strengthen its capacity, the Commission is seeking to recruit suitable, qualified and highly committed individuals to fill the following positions.

1. Personal Assistant to the Commission Secretary / CEO

Ref: NGEC/4/2012

Duration: Five (5) Year Contract Renewable

Roles and Responsibilities

    To provide support to the office of the Commission Secretary/CEO both administratively and programmatically;
    To manage the Commission Secretary/CEO’s Diary;
    To coordinate, facilitate and attend meetings for the Commission Secretary/CEO;
    To assist in organizing Commission’s statutory meetings and any other meetings as required;
    To undertake research on issues to the mandate of the Commission for the Commission Secretary/CEO;
    To draft opinions for the Commission Secretary on topical issues as they may arise;
    To prepare briefs and presentations for the Commission Secretary;
    To represent the Commission Secretary in meetings as may be assigned; and
    To undertake any other duties which may be assigned to you, from time to time by the Commission Secretary.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

    Be a citizen of Kenya;
    Holds a degree from a recognized University in Kenya in Social Science;
    Have at least 5-7years relevant experience in areas of Gender, Administration;
    Working with the marginalized groups, persons with disabilities and Children will be an added advantage;
    Very good writing, communication and presentation skills;
    Good interpersonal and people management skills;
    Good organizational and analytical skills;
    Honest, transparent and demonstrate high level of integrity;
    Ability to work under pressure or to meet deadlines

2. Program Assistant (Personal Aide) - Disability, Elderly and Marginalized Program

Roles and Responsibilities

    To assist in programme work; organizing seminars; workshops and conferences and others as directed;
    To assist the programme officer to access information by reading print materials, electronic mails and any other appropriate information;
    To assist in debrailling all print materials and any other appropriate means of communication by the use of Braille embosser;
    To assist the programme officer in accessing places by serving as a human guide;
    To assist the programme officer in accessing and using facilities for person with disabilities that are integrated into society to the extent compatible with the interests of the persons;
    Assist programme officer in compiling briefing and other written materials; and
    Assist with basic management of programme calendar and maintain accurate files and reports.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

    Holds a Bachelors degree in Social Science
    Relevant experience in areas of Disability, Elderly, working with marginalized and persons with disabilities;
    1 year experience in related field
    Proficiency in Ms Office and Computer Skills;
    Strong Oral and Written Communication skills;
    Well organized and skilled in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks
    Holder of valid Kenyan driving license
    Honest, Transparent and demonstrate high level on integrity;
    Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
