The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to the study of national and international migration policies, is seeking an exceptional analyst to help anchor the Institute’s International Program research on economic and labor market issues. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills and a sound understanding of labor economics, the role of public policy in shaping labor market institutions, and immigration. Salary and title will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Required

An exceptional candidate with professional experience in a public policy setting and a Master’s or PhD in public policy, economics, statistics, or a closely related quantitative discipline. Combined postgraduate education and/or relevant experience of 3-5 years (Associate Policy Analyst) or 6-8 years (Policy Analyst).

    Ability to analyze and clearly communicate labor market dynamics to a nontechnical audience, including the role and impact of regulations, supply and demand for labor, investments in human capital, determinants of pay and productivity, and the impact of immigration.
    Strong quantitative skills, including experience conducting original analysis using statistical programming software and ability to visualize, present, and explain data effectively.
    Familiarity with the immigration policies of at least one immigrant-receiving country preferred (Associate Policy Analyst) / required (Policy Analyst), including knowledge of current immigration trends, debates, and policies; government agencies and programs charged with implementing immigration policy; the economic, labor market, and socio-political dimensions of immigration and immigrant-integration policy.

    Proven English writing and editing skills (finalists will be asked to complete a writing and/or editing exercise).

Preferred

Publications record, especially in relevant policy fields, and standing in the research and public policy worlds

    Bilingual or multilingual
    Experience with public speaking and working with the media

Duties and Responsibilities

Work with MPI colleagues to author or coauthor reports, articles, policy briefs, and memos of varying lengths and degrees of detail.

    Identify and analyze data illustrating current immigration trends and policies; interpret empirical academic research for a non-technical audience.
    Commission and edit reports from external academics.
    Support other MPI staff with researching, interpreting data, and organizing research seminars and conferences.
