IN-HOUSE EDITOR


Introduction
MNET seeks to appoint a highly creative and energetic individual as the In-house Video Editor to edit both In-house
produced and any acquired content as will be necessary.

Minimum Requirements
A minimum of 5 years of relevant editing and/or graphics experience.
A Diploma in Video Production editing.
Must be proficient in Final Cut Pro and Avid editing software; proficiency in After Effects, Photoshop and
graphic based editing are an added advantage.
Must be proficient in English and Kiswahili – both written and spoken.
Must have technical knowledge of all aspects of video editing, including importing media, working with a
variety of compression formats, basic audio sweetening and DVD authoring.
Must be able to work with footage from varying formats and qualities ranging from SD to HD footage, as
well as the ability to make the file formats work seamlessly together.
Must be willing to work on a variety of projects which vary in length including short, quick turnaround
projects which take a few hours.
Must have an interest in learning new technologies.
Must be able to function well in a fast paced environment; should be self motivated and have the ability
to work independently.
Adjusted schedule with some weekend and evening hours to be expected.




Job Specification
The Video Editor will be responsible for assisting in the creation of entertaining content to be played on any
number of platforms including, broadcast television, internet and Digital handheld devices. In this dynamic
position the editor will be required to work on several projects at once, work under strict deadlines and be an
active part of a creative team. The ability to effectively pitch ideas, offer creative solutions to problems and think
of innovative ways to reach a desired audience will be key to the position.

Key Responsibilities

Edit films and videotapes to insert music, dialogue, and sound effects, to arrange films into sequences,
and to correct errors, and include subtitles using the editing equipment.

Subtitle content in either English or Swahili languages as will be required by the Content Buyer to ensure a
wide reach of audiences.

Review footage sequence by sequence to become familiar with it before assembling it into a final product.

Select and combine the most effective shots of each scene to form a logical and smoothly running story.

Organize and string together raw footage into a continuous whole according to scripts or the instructions
of directors, producers and as per Programme Acceptance notes.

Review assembled films or edited videotapes on screens or monitors to determine if corrections are
necessary.

Set up and operate computer editing systems, electronic titling systems, video switching equipment, and
digital video effects units to produce a final product.

Trim film segments to specified lengths, and reassemble segments in sequences that present stories with
maximum effect.

Confer with producers and directors concerning layout or editing approaches needed to increase dramatic
or entertainment value of productions. .

Cut shot sequences to different angles at specific points in scenes, making each individual cut as fluid and
seamless as possible.

Study scripts to become familiar with production concepts and requirements.
